Opus
2002
German Stage Award Category "Lightdesign"
On the occasion of the 50st year of the
International Musikmesse / Pro Light
+ Sound tradeshow in Frankfurt/M.,
the german stageprizes OPUS
were awarded. Teddy Goetz was honored
with the OPUS 2002 in the
category Lightdesign.
Teddy Goetz is one of the primary rocks
in the art of lightdesign in Germany.
Since 1977, when he toured as a lightdesigner
with popular german rockgroup Kraan,
the theme of light creation has held a
firm grip on him. As a light designer
he has earned himself a superior reputation,
not only in Germany, but also on the international
plain.
Three components build his success: a
diverse creativity, a distinct understanding
of architecture and a vast competence
of light technique. Keen on experimenting,
he created new potential for lightdesign.
He was one of the first lightdesigners,
to involve moving lights in his show productions.
Also the use of video- and sliceprojection
in showdesign was a field that Teddy Goetz
was open to. In the course of his career
Teddy Goetz has designed und realized
the most diverse productions. It started
with tour production, skillfully putting
artists, from songwriters to popmusicians,
in the limelight.
A next step was the event branch - from
product presentations to company meetings
or incentives. Many of the better known
lightdesigns stern from Teddy Goetz, amongst
others the light- and stagedesign for
the Schweinetour 1995 of the
well known german vocalgroup Die
Prinzen with the legendary UFO-opening.
Or the impressive BMW-3-line presentation
Discover The Blue Planet at
the New York Festival at the
Timessquare Marriott Hotel in 1998, bringing
Goetz the Gold-Award for best lightdesign.
TV, that has been so successful for Teddy
Goetz, also was a very early field of
interrest for him. He was the man behind
the famous WDR Rockpalast
broadcastshows in the mid-80s and has
grown to be a major showlight designer
in this field too, assuring individual
design and translating technical quality.
To the more recent calling cards in the
TV field we must count the light design
for Stars 1995 - 2001, the
Popkomm Gala 2000 and 2001
and Arena der Stars 2001 and
2002. The quality of his outstanding achievements
can be measured by the fact that Goetz
not only executes the part of light and
stage design, but more and more so slips
into the responsible role of a lightsetter
The jury was made up of acknowledged experts,
the associations VPLT and EVVC, the trade
magazines Production And Event Partner
and Bühnentechnische Rundschau
and the Frankfurt Trade Fair. The prizes
were awarded on march 13th 2002 in the
course of a Gala Dinner at the Forum at
the Frankfurt Fair grounds.
Teddy Goetz is founder und owner of Tour
Service Lichtdesign KG, resident
in Bielefeld-Sennestadt since the early
80s.
